POSITION: FY26 Special Education Coordinator (District-wide)
DESCRIPTION: The role of the Special Education Coordinator is to be an educational leader and advocate for
students with disabilities within the school setting. He/she will actively support the assigned school(s) to ensure that
a strong commitment to improving academic and social achievement of students with disabilities is evident. The Coordinator will act as a liaison with the Kankakee Area Special Education Cooperative, other outside agencies and regional partners.
SALARY RANGE: This position will be compensated in the $60,000-$80,000 range and is commensurate with experience.
DUTIES:
1. Coordinate and lead building based Student Services team meetings.
2. Collaborates with appropriate individuals so that the educational needs of the students with disabilities are
appropriately addressed and in compliance with district procedures as well as applicable federal and state
laws.
3. Support and foster an environment that focuses on inclusive practices for all students.
4. Provides consultative services to general education teachers regarding effective methodologies to use with
students with special learning needs.
5. Provides consultative services to all staff regarding the nature of varying disabilities and effects caused by
the disabilities on learning and behavior in the educational environment.
6. Confers with necessary support staff (social worker, psychologist, guidance counselor, etc.) to determine individual student needs.
7. Collaborates with building administration to ensure student needs are being met.
8. Collaborates with the MTSS team for initial referrals for special education services.
9. Monitors school IEP and 504 timelines to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
10. Reviews and makes necessary amendments to IEP and 504 paperwork.
11. Ensures staff complete quarterly/trimester updates of students’ goals and objectives.
12. Coordinates and assists with IEP and 504 training to staff.
13. Tracks and ensures that all 3 year eligibility meetings meet timelines and completion.
14. Creates a school calendar to track all special education and 504 meetings for the purpose of organization
and legal compliance.
15. Participates and serves as LEA in IEP and 504 meetings.
16. Review IEP’s for accuracy and compliance.
17. Maintain a high level of confidentiality of information about students.
18. Oversees all outside placements.
19. Develops, oversees, monitors and manages any applicable state or federal grants and reports.
20. Evaluate certified and non-certified staff.
21. Assist in the hiring and assignment of certified and non-certified staff.
22. Other reasonable duties as assigned by the District Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Illinois Type 75 Certification meet legal requirements as teacher evaluator, and evidence of successful special education experience.
