| Description | Purpose:
Momence CUSD #1 is seeking a collaborative, supportive, and culturally responsive ESL / Bilingual Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The teacher is responsible for providing high-quality English language acquisition instruction and academic support to English Learners (ELs) while creating a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment.
Servicing student needs within grades 5–12 as assigned by district leadership, the teacher delivers targeted language support, accelerates newcomer growth, provides push-in co-teaching in general education classrooms to prepare multilingual students for academic and social success across core subjects.
Qualifications:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an ESL Endorsement or Bilingual Endorsement (Spanish), OR valid Educator License with Stipulations – Transitional Bilingual Educator (ELS-TBE) (Spanish), OR active PEL with Short-Term Approval in ESL or Bilingual Education (Spanish).

Strong oral and written communication skills in English; Spanish proficiency is highly preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of second language acquisition principles and effective instructional strategies for intermediate, middle, or high school multilingual learners.

Essential Job Functions:

Plan and deliver targeted English language instruction for newcomers and developing multilingual learners across all four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Provide push-in classroom support in general English classrooms and other core content areas as assigned, helping students access grade-level academic concepts.

Adapt assignments, differentiate content, and scaffold instruction to meet students at their specific learning and language proficiency levels.

Draft, implement, monitor, and update individual English Learner Progression plans (ELPs) to establish clear, achievable growth targets for each student.

Administer state-mandated annual ACCESS testing and serve as an administrator for initial English language screening of incoming new students.

Collect and track academic and linguistic growth using classroom work, district benchmark assessments (e.g., MAP), state screeners, and curriculum data to celebrate progress and make timely instructional adjustments.

Partner and co-plan with general education teachers to share sheltered instruction strategies and support ELs in core classes.

Participate in student support meetings, including IEP and 504 plan meetings for dually identified students, to ensure language goals align with individual student plans.

Assist the English Learner Coordinator with family outreach, community events, and meetings for the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC) to build strong school-family partnerships.

Communicate effectively and regularly with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners regarding student growth, assessment results, and ELP milestones.

Maintain accurate, confidential records and complete required state and district compliance reports in a timely manner.

Create a positive, welcoming classroom culture that promotes additive bilingualism and keeps students actively engaged in meaningful learning.

Salary: Determined based on MEA Collective Bargaining Agreement ($42,020 - $84,739) |
